[Quiet Place] Plotting Master Post

Tony gets up to things. Want in? You're in the right place.

CURRENT PROJECTS
  • Resourcing: Tony is building up supplies of useful items. Circuit boards, wires, batteries, conductor metals, rods, hardware, tools. I'm not personally science smart so if you think of something good you haven't seen me mention anywhere toss it in anyway. He'll appreciate the help.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED: Mostly going to be an handwaved thing or one-liners in threads of Tony asking for help/other characters telling him they have stuff or giving said stuff to him. Will occasionally toss up a network post and/or log asking for folks to go on gathering trips for specific rarer items.

  • Sound Dampening: Currently he is sound proofing the deck of house one. Drywall, carpeting, curtains, metal shelving from stores, duct tape, nails, tools, screws, poles, wood, general hardware, etc are all appreciated along with helpful hands. The current plan is to get a relatively stable set up with soundless methods (duct tape + jenga) and then use that to build an absolutely sound proof room with louder methods within the confines of the first build.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED: For the most part I'm going to be handwaving this, but let me know if your character would have proferred help.

  • Batteries: Tony is collecting. Right now he's working to restore what he finds to some working semblance and recharge them by connecting them to solar panels in a building away from the main living section of the settlement. Eventually when he has a soundproof area to work in he'll be taking them apart and swapping the best parts to rebuild more functional batteries. The eventual plan is to use them to build swappable battery arays he can use as generators until he can build an arc reactor for indefinite energy.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED: Again mostly handwaving, let me know if your character would help, etc.

  • Mobile Exploration: The idea is to build drones with cameras connected to the nerwork for safer exploration. This is not the top item of Tony's list, but he'd like to get one or two operational with the kinks worked out and gift them to others within the community to use. Right now the focus model is rc cars until he can get the resources to build a silent flyer like Red Wing.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED: There will be eventual part gathering trips he'll ask for help on or delegate out to others. Who he eventually gives drones to depends entirely on how active he sees a character being in the community. That said he's not against sharing schematics if anyone wants to build their own, just lemme know you'd like a schematic for your character.

  • BACKBURNER PROJECTS
[Everything below may or may not happen depending on game plot, how things play out for Tony, mod stipulations, etc. This is brainstorming ONLY.]
    * Build an area sound dampening device. Planned upgrades being to continually increase size, length of functionality and portability as time passes.
    * Check the state of the power grid, city water system and satellites in orbit.
    * Get access to the city traffic cam system and repair it if necessary (might require a trip to wherever that kind of data goes??).
    * Soundproof a warehouse or other large building for use as a lab.
    * Build a stealth op Ironman suit because fuck this noise (probably going to be pieces to start with like sound absorbing boots and weapons, etc).
    * Run tests on the reset room, the red dust and the Sound Eater birthing pod things.

    TEACHING
Tony teaches mechanical skills at the town hall meetings on Sunday. These include:
    * Techniques for soundproofing rooms and objects
    * Basic plumbing and electrical knowledge
    * Construction techniques that don't require nails, screws and other noise making activities (eg students will know how to build their own little house on the prairie by the end along with how to make a variety of glues, sealants and woodless fires)
    * First aid for when you inevitably fuck up and hurt yourself
    * The final is building a useful object using the skills learned in class
***FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY: students will be given batteries to take home, clean and recharge.

“Office time” can be bought by bringing Tony batteries and other useful items (tools, anything listed in the Current Projects section above). One type of item = 15 minutes of Tony's time. Multiple items of the same type count as one item, he's not playing lawyer games with you people /shakes fist.

Tony will also ocassionally have students help him with current projects he's working on. Small/inconsequential tasks will be listed above in the subject matter list. Larger/status quo altering tasks I will make an announcement in OOC for.

If your character is a reoccurring student (rather than the occasional lurker), please leave a comment under Student Roster below.

    COLLABORATION PROJECTS
If you want Tony to build something for/with your character drop a comment and we'll hash it out. For anything that's not a small project I run it by the mods so if your character wants a quinjet I'm not going to have the final say in that. Just an heads up.

Majima would show up as a regular student, with occasional absences for Some Bullshit. He's intelligent, but he's also from 1988 and not actually a construction worker or anything.

FWIW, he's a potentially frustrating student as if classes aren't engaging, he'll get bored after about 30 minutes. He can also display implicit understanding of fairly complex wiring, but only when he concentrates, and he either cannot or will not explain why he knows how to fix/break the thing. (Try asking him sometime, it's terrible.)

Feel free to assume that Majima's exploring on the regular and handing Tony whatever batteries or electronics or whatever other stuff he doesn't personally need; he does not particularly keep track.

Rosa ([personal profile] ghostfluster) attends as long as Serious Bullshit isn't happening elsewhere in her life, because fuck yeah, skills. She'll also point him at the workshop space she and Jan put up in the reset room complex if he cares to have an alt place for actually noisy work at intervals.

Sora here is there every Sunday possible. He's very interested even if he isn't exactly the best tech student.

He would also, just bring random crap to Tony on a regular basis that he finds laying about - tools, pieces of tech scrap, things he's salvaged from all over. Not for fifteen minutes of time but he would ask what Tony's up to. Sora would ask to go when he does decide to hit up the power plant and water system.

As for Sora's Stasis Pod project, the mods have already said a native could build it for him. He just wants to modify it.

Prompto Argentum ([personal profile] impostersyndrome) will try to be there. He's no engineer but he has an interest in machinery and he wants to learn ways to help, since his normal way of helping (shooting things) isn't really an option here. Also he's good at fetch quests. (._.)b

Eddie ([personal profile] clussy) will absolutely be a reoccurring student. He's from the fifties, but he's got a knack for fixing things and will probably pick up rather quick. He's good on first aid info and will excel at that. Eddie will also probably be bringing Tony random things quite often as he's usually exploring.
